I’m a professional

Do you work in a community organization, a health institution, a school setting, or a public agency? Do you support adults experiencing distress or vulnerability?

Le Transit is a specialized crisis intervention resource, deeply rooted in Montréal’s community. We offer a rapid, humane, and collaborative response to crisis situations.

Le Transit: a complementary partner of the community

We don’t replace the public system — we complement it.

Our approach stands out for its flexibility, responsiveness, and local presence. We are available day and night, seven days a week, to intervene directly with people in crisis or to support partners in their own interventions.

Our services fit within a continuum of care, working in complementarity with existing resources: front-line services, CIUSSS teams, mental health programs, community organizations, postvention services, and more.

When to refer someone to Le Transit

Here are some situations where our support may be helpful:

What to expect when referring someone

Our intervention framework is clear, flexible, and collaborative. Each referral involves a careful assessment of the situation to gather the necessary information and recommend the most appropriate services.

Keep in mind:

  • No formal referral is required — a simple phone call is enough (514-282-7753).
  • Consent and participation from the person are required for any follow-up process.
  • Mobile intervention, short-term crisis follow-up, or temporary housing may be offered.
  • A complete evaluation of the situation is carried out to understand the context, the person’s resources, and environment. We trust your clinical judgment but always take a holistic view to identify the best next steps.
  • Depending on the situation, we can collaborate with existing partners, co-develop intervention strategies, or coordinate a referral to other services when the person is ready.
  • Our approach is interdisciplinary and collaborative, built on a shared intervention model whenever needed.

To support this collaboration, our liaison counsellor serves as the main point of contact for partners. This person can:

  • Facilitate access to services and simplify referral and coordination processes.
  • Present our mission and services directly within your organization.
  • Stay informed of the evolution of your services and emerging community needs.
  • Please inform us if the person uses substances — while this is not a barrier to intervention, crisis housing requires that the person not be under the influence, as it is a shared living environment.

Caregivers: Getting Through Crisis Together (Caregiver Support Project)

Launched in March 2023, this pilot project was created through a partnership between Arborescence Québec (caregiver support organization) and Le Centre de crise Le Transit. It provides a crisis intervention continuum designed specifically for caregivers, who are often themselves in distress due to the complex realities they face.

Objectives:

  • Prevent exhaustion, frustration, and helplessness among caregivers
  • Preserve their mental health and their ability to support their loved one without losing themselves in the process

What we offer:

  • One-on-one psychosocial support, including help with legal processes
  • Interactive psychoeducational workshops that help recognize personal signs of crisis, build prevention tools, and better understand what one is going through as a caregiver
  • Public conferences with testimonials and educational content on crisis and caregiving
